3 fuglar (3 birds) is an opera-folk performance that features an international cast of artists and professionals from Iceland, France, Poland and Spain, recorded at the Hafnaborg Museum of Hafnarfjördur, Iceland.

Set in two parts, Tinna Thorvald, Ellie Taquet and Tiphaine Peduzzi begin the musical impro, a fusion of opera, dance and folk, a real encounter of different styles and disciplines, as a metaphor that no matter where we come from, nor how we express ourselves, we can coexist in harmony, even if we just met for the first time.

This first part lays the foundation for the second part, an a capella performance of aria nº39 of Matthäus-Passion, by J.S. Bach, “Erbarme dich, mein Gott” (Have mercy, my God). Tinna Thorvald instills a profound sadness, she expresses an eager plea, human being’s begging for forgiveness.

As polish poet Adam Zagajewski stated, Europe’s soul is contained in this aria. “Erbarme dich, mein Gott” is a plea that reconciles peoples in a horizon of hope and transcendence. Death is not the end of it all.

We believe it’s necessary to ask for forgiveness. Forgiveness for conflicts, for destroying what surrounds us, for disproportionate egos, for the inability to understand how close the beauty of existence is. Because we are not alone in the sorrows and joys of life.

3 fuglar (3 birds) is a reflection of it.
